Kingpin was a mobster strictly for business purposes. He had no 'connections' when he started, no menacing bodyguards. He was a sharp mind who saw many opportunities that just happened to be rather illegal. He climbed the ladder and eventually had to hire goons to protect those interest.
He knew 'businessman' was a cliché. But he fit it. The real meaning, not the cliché. All the rest of them were thugs. In it for the personal adventure, the warring gangs. He couldn't be, not with his girth. Others were 'players' after wealth, not just materialistically but also with girls. Did he have a more beautiful wife than he deserved? Yeah, but he also loved her and was married to her. He didn't run no harem.
That d**n spider-man, and the others, were what got him the wrong way. Fretful, and d**n tough to strategize against. He polished his silverware, as he set the table for a meeting with his lieutenants about coming operations and management. He liked to make it personable. Made them either less suspicious, or more...he liked them on edge.
Nonetheless, he didn't need the world. Just them, out of his hair.
